About

L. A. Fairbanks was raised barefoot in rural southeastern Washington: home to rolling fields of wheat, mountains of blue, hiding under the skirt of evergreens. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science & Writing from Utah State University. Jobs have included polishing fine jewelry, teaching backcountry survival skills to teenage girls, middle school science fair judge, soil science lab technician (complete with geeky latex gloves, safety glasses and a lab coat), as well as publishing a few essays here and there.

When not in the studio, Laurie can be found talking to plants, transforming home, or watching bugs with her nieces & nephews…

Statement:

Synaesthesia: 1. a phenomena whereby a particular sensory stimulus triggers a second kind of sensation. 2. a literary device whereby one kind of sensation is described in the terms of another.

Synaesthesiology?: Study of intersection, connection, & hybridization of the senses. I am a translator, bridge, between worlds: micro/macro, textures, dimension within depth.  Discovering the story between eye & sight. Listening in the silence of landscape. Translating senses to visual form.    Many of my photographs are abstracted.  Taken in a junk yard or pile of driftwood.  Details magnified.  Sculptures created through reclamation of Metal/Wood/Stone. The transformation of one form of energy into another.

Prints are affordable & limited edition.  Just ask!
